More than 24,000 people and 54 organisations are urging the next UK Government to fix Britain’s broken social care system. Decades of neglect and underfunding have pushed care services to the brink.
Care and Support Alliance Sounds Alarm
The Care and Support Alliance, a coalition of over 50 leading charities, has fired off a powerful letter to party leaders. It condemns years of political inaction that have left millions without the care they desperately need.
“Millions of older and working-aged disabled people and their carers desperately need a social care system that works, and a failure to act would be a betrayal. For social care, it’s time for actions, not just words. Good social care supports people to live their lives — to get up and out, work, see the people they love, be independent, but currently, at least 2.6 million people go without the care they need.”
Charity Chiefs Slam Political Promises
Leading voices from Age UK, Carers UK, and Mencap hit out at politicians who have repeatedly overpromised and underdelivered on social care reform.
“We’ve had far too much of politicians of all colours over-promising & under-delivering. Good social care is transformational. It’s tragic to see older people and working-age adults deprived of opportunities to live well and carers crushed by unbearable pressure to fill gaping service gaps.”
“Failing to tackle this crisis would betray those who rely on care and their families, while setting up the NHS to crumble. Social care reform isn’t ‘too difficult’ — it’s urgently needed. Politicians must stop hiding and start acting.”
