Teen Jailed for Life Over Fatal Birthday Stabbing in Nuneaton

A 17-year-old boy from Nuneaton has been locked up for life after fatally stabbing 25-year-old Tom Ellis during a birthday night out. Warwick Crown Court handed down the sentence on September 20, 2024, including a charge for carrying a knife in public.

Birthday Night Turns Deadly on Queens Road

The tragedy unfolded on June 8, 2024, when Tom Ellis was out celebrating his birthday with family. On his way to a local pub, he crossed paths with four teenage boys. A brief verbal spat quickly spiralled into violence as the 17-year-old pulled out a knife and stabbed Ellis in the chest.

Despite frantic efforts by family and emergency services, Tom died from his injuries early the next morning.

CCTV and Witnesses Help Nab Killer in 72 Hours

Police acted fast, using CCTV footage, witness accounts, and forensic evidence to identify and arrest the teenager within three days. Officers also seized the murder weapon and clothing during a raid on the boy’s home.

Family Mourns, Police Call for Community Action

“Tom brought joy and love to everyone around him,” said his partner Alexis during the court hearing. “His loss has left a hole no words can fill.”

His father Chris added, “This tragedy has shattered our lives.”

Detective Inspector Gareth Unett condemned the killing as a “senseless act of violence” and urged the community to unite against knife crime.

The teen will serve a minimum of 13 years and three months before parole eligibility. The case will be reviewed before any potential release.
