Tragic Plane Crash Claims One Life at Eagle Mountain Lake
A small aircraft plunged into Eagle Mountain Lake in Fort Worth on Monday afternoon, killing the sole occupant onboard.
Details of the Crash
The victim was confirmed as an adult male, the only person aboard the single-engine Champion 7EC. The Tarrant Water Regional District is leading the investigation but has yet to release the pilot’s identity. The crash occurred around 12:40 p.m. on the north-central side of the lake.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office responded swiftly. Recovery teams faced difficult conditions due to the damaged plane, with divers working at the submerged wreckage to retrieve the body.
Dramatic Footage and Eyewitness Insight
Texas Sky Ranger’s aerial footage showed the plane partially underwater as recovery efforts continued. Nearby surveillance video obtained by NBC 5 captured the terrifying moments before the crash, showing the aircraft rapidly descending into the lake.
Local ex-pilot John Goggans, who trained on the same aircraft model, expressed shock. “Weather conditions seemed fine. It could have been engine failure or a medical emergency for the pilot,” he said. “Otherwise, I can’t see any reason why it would hit the water except poor judgment.”
Investigation Underway
The FAA, along with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), has launched a full investigation. So far, details about the flight’s origin and destination remain under wraps.
Officials continue to piece together what led to this deadly crash at Eagle Mountain Lake.
