Man Arrested in UK’s Biggest Ever Illegal Fly-Tipping Scandal
A 39-year-old man from Guildford has been arrested over the UK’s largest illegal fly-tipping case. The massive waste dump was uncovered at a site in Kidlington, Oxfordshire.
Major Crime Unit Cracks Down on Environmental Offender
The arrest follows a coordinated crackdown by the Environment Agency’s Major Investigation team and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit. The suspect was taken into custody on Tuesday, 25 November.
“Following the initial report on 2 July, Environment Agency officers acted fast, issuing a cease-and-desist letter to stop the tipping. When the dumping continued through October, a court order forced closure of the site on 23 October,” said an Environment Agency spokesperson.
“No more tipping has occurred since. The site remains a live crime scene and is off limits to the public.”
“Our National Environmental Crime Unit leads the investigation, determined to find all those responsible and bring them to justice. This arrest is a key step forward for the local community.”
Environmental Safeguards Roll Out to Protect River Cherwell
The Environment Agency is racing to protect the nearby River Cherwell from contamination. Large sandbags are being placed between the colossal waste pile and the river as an urgent barrier to stop pollution.
The site is now sealed off with Heras fencing, blocking all public access while the probe continues. Authorities promise to keep up the fight against illegal waste dumping to protect both the environment and local residents.
