Gillian Morand, 36, died in Bexley in March 2020. Initially ruled a suicide, new revelations of domestic abuse have sparked a major police probe.
Scotland Yard Act After Abuse Allegations Emerge
Following allegations that Gillian endured domestic abuse before her death, the Metropolitan Police launched an investigation. Seyhan Assaf, 45, from Sidcup, has now been charged with manslaughter and coercive or controlling behaviour.
The force says the abuse happened over a “significant period” and contributed to Gillian’s death.
Suspect Due in Court This Weekend
Assaf is set to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten said: “This is a complex investigation with very few charges of this nature authorised across the country.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Officers are urging anyone who had contact with Gillian in the decade before her death to come forward.
