Chaos at Blackheath Common: Police Swarm Funfair After Youths Spark Disorder

Massive Police Response Rocks Blackheath

A major police operation unfolded at Blackheath Common this afternoon after a large group of youths caused chaos near the local funfair. At around 3.30pm, the Metropolitan Police rushed to the scene following reports of disorder.

Officers quickly shut down Prince Charles Road, between Shooters Hill Road and Montpelier Road, to control the situation and keep the public safe.

Multiple Arrests and Tough Section 60 Order Enforced

The Met confirmed several arrests for various offences, including the serious charge of possession of an offensive weapon in public. The total number of arrests remains under wraps as enquiries continue.

In a bid to clamp down on further trouble, police imposed a Section 60 order across the area. This power lets officers stop and search people or vehicles without needing prior suspicion — a move reserved for times when violence or weapons threats loom large.

Police Hold Ground, Disperse Remaining Troublemakers

Police stayed on the scene into the evening, working to clear any lingering youths. Most of the unruly group had already dispersed by late afternoon, according to the force.

“On Tuesday, 8 April, police were made aware of a large group of youths causing disorder on Blackheath Common. Officers are currently on scene dispersing those who may still remain, while the majority were cleared throughout the afternoon. There were several arrests for separate offences, including possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. A Section 60 order has been put in place within the area. Police continue to monitor the situation. Enquiries are ongoing.” – Metropolitan Police Spokesperson

Local Fear and Calls for More Security

The incident rattled local residents. Many took to social media to share images and videos of the heavy police presence around the fairground and along Prince Charles Road.

Parents at the funfair expressed relief over the swift police reaction but urged for boosted security at future community events to prevent similar flare-ups.
