The family of Rizwana Kousar have released a heartfelt statement following the sentencing of her killer, as a court heard the devastating impact of her loss.
Abdul Sami, 23, of Mannheim Road, was convicted by a jury at Bradford Crown Court on Wednesday, 17 March, of the murder of his stepmother, Rizwana Kousar, 41.
He was sentenced on Friday, 20 March, to life imprisonment, and must serve a minimum of 14 years and 91 days before being considered for parole.
A Life Remembered
In a moving tribute, Rizwana’s family described her as a loving and selfless woman whose presence brought joy to everyone around her.
“Rizwana was a cherished daughter, sister, auntie, and friend, whose heart was always full of love and selflessness,” the family said.
“Her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone she touched, bringing warmth and joy into countless lives.”
‘An Immeasurable Loss’
The family spoke of the overwhelming grief they now face, highlighting the deep void left behind by her death.
“The void she has left is immeasurable, and our hearts are shattered by her absence.”
They also expressed the profound pain that continues to affect them, while making clear their desire for justice.
“Nothing can erase the profound pain and devastation that has engulfed our family, we hope only to seek justice for Rizwana.”
Privacy Requested as Family Grieves
As they come to terms with their loss, Rizwana’s loved ones have asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.
“We would ask that our privacy is respected.”
The case has shocked the local community, with many paying tribute to Rizwana as a kind and caring woman whose life was tragically cut short.
