Greater Manchester Police launched a murder investigation after the body of 33-year-old Amber O’Brien was found at her flat on Broadmoss Drive in Blackley, north Manchester, on Sunday, April 18. Stephan Garner, 31, has been charged with her murder and appeared at Manchester Crown Court, where no plea was entered.
Family Tribute To Amber
Amber’s family described her as a “beautiful soul” in a statement released through GMP. They said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Amber. Her passing has left us devastated, and she will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.” They praised her warm smile, kindness, and the joy she brought to those around her.

Close friend Chelby McKay has raised thousands of pounds in Amber’s memory. Chelby said “She had an infectious laugh. Any room she walked into, she would light it up. If you were having a really bad day, you would see Amber, and it would turn around. She would do anything for anybody, always putting others before herself.”
Court Proceedings Underway
Stephan Garner appeared via video link from custody at Manchester Crown Court on Friday. He confirmed his identity but made no plea. He was remanded in custody and will appear again on June 5 for a pretrial hearing. A preliminary trial date is set for October 12.
