A 24-year-old man from Bedford has been sentenced to three years and seven months in prison for forcing a teenage girl into a marriage and sexually abusing her. Mohammed Al-Amin, from Saxon Way, Great Denham, was convicted at Luton Crown Court of forced marriage and sexual offences against a child under 18. Bedfordshire Police were involved in the investigation, which highlights the ongoing issue of abuse and coercion within forced marriages.
Forced Marriage
Al-Amin coerced the victim into an Islamic marriage conducted over Zoom, in a language she did not understand. The marriage was imposed on her as a minor without her full consent, a key part of the court’s findings.
Sexual Abuse
The court heard Al-Amin undertook controlling behaviour and sexually abused the victim during her early teenage years, worsening the severity of the crimes against her.
Harassment After Breakup
Following the end of the relationship, Al-Amin continued to harass the victim by sending abusive messages and death threats targeting her family, intensifying the ongoing intimidation.
Restraining Order
Alongside his prison term, Al-Amin was issued a five-year restraining order and will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for seven years to ensure the victim’s and public’s protection.
