A nasty blaze tore through a hardware shop on Queen Street, Horsham, on Saturday night. The fire quickly spread to the flat above, where a family lived with their young kids. They made a desperate escape, managing to get out unharmed – but lost every single possession, including basic essentials like shoes.

Their gut-wrenching story has sparked a wave of support. A GoFundMe page set up to help them rebuild their lives smashed through £15,000 in donations within 48 hours. The community’s generosity is flooding in to give this family a fresh start.

Firefighters’ Heroic Battle To Save Neighbourhood

West Sussex Fire & Rescue arrived at the scene at 10:07 pm on January 18, facing a fierce blaze roaring through the rear of the large commercial property.

The emergency response was massive: 10 fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, a water carrier, and a command support vehicle all raced to contain the fire. Crews battled to stop the flames from spreading to neighbouring buildings, working flat out into the night.

Thankfully, no one was injured – residents or firefighters.

Fire Cracked as Accidental, Locals Evacuated

The cause is believed accidental. In total, 18 local residents were evacuated as a safety precaution.

West Sussex Fire & Rescue are keeping a close eye on the site with ongoing checks to prevent any flare-ups.
