Woman Airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital After Malvern Hills Fall
Terrifying Fall on the Malvern Hills
A woman in her 60s was rushed to hospital after a dramatic fall on the Malvern Hills this afternoon. The accident happened just after 12:05pm near Chase End, Bromsberrow, on the edge of the hills.
Emergency Crews Race to the Scene
The Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham was the first to arrive, followed by a paramedic officer and ambulance crew who had to trek three-quarters of a mile on foot to reach the patient due to the rough terrain.
Challenging Rescue Operation
The woman fell down a steep embankment and is believed to have hit a branch. Rescuers stabilised her with a scoop stretcher after treating abdominal and shoulder injuries. Carrying her back to the ambulance was nearly impossible, so they took her to the top of the hill where the air ambulance had landed.
Swift Airlift to Major Trauma Centre
With help from bystanders, ambulance staff transported the woman to the helicopter. She was then airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for urgent treatment.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Transporting the woman back to the land ambulance would have been an almost impossible task due to the distance and the terrain.”
