A man has been charged following a Metropolitan Police investigation into the activist group Take Back Power, which has claimed responsibility for a series of high-profile criminal damage and shoplifting incidents. Arthur Clifton, 25, of Gipsy Road, Lambeth, has been charged with encouraging or assisting offences believing one or more will be committed, contrary to Sections 46 and 58 of the Serious Crime Act 2007. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 2 September.
Investigation into Take Back Power
The charge follows an investigation by the Metropolitan Police into the activities of Take Back Power. The group has publicly claimed responsibility for a number of incidents, including acts of alleged criminal damage targeting The Ritz Hotel and the Crown Jewels in December, as well as organised shoplifting from high street supermarkets in London and Manchester.
Allegation of encouraging offences
According to the Metropolitan Police, Clifton is accused of encouraging the commission of criminal activity, specifically offences relating to theft and criminal damage. The force has not released further details about the allegations at this stage.
Court proceedings
Clifton will appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court next month, where the case will begin to progress through the courts.
