Claims that the Government is considering proscribing anti-migration group Patriot Platform as a terrorist organisation are circulating online, but there is currently no official confirmation that such a move is planned.

The claims have emerged while Patriot Platform founder Danny Thomas, also known as Danny Tommo, remains in custody awaiting trial over separate criminal allegations.

There is also no evidence that Thomas has been designated or convicted as a terrorist.

No confirmation of Patriot Platform proscription

Under the Terrorism Act 2000, an organisation can be proscribed if the Home Secretary believes it is concerned in terrorism. A proscribed organisation is then added to the statutory list of banned organisations.

Patriot Platform does not currently appear to have been proscribed under that legislation.

The Government has introduced separate powers allowing bodies involved in foreign-state threat activity to be designated, but those powers are aimed at organisations acting for or on behalf of hostile foreign states. The Home Office says the National Security (State Threats) Act 2026 created these powers to target foreign-state organisations and proxy groups.

There is no indication in the official material reviewed that Patriot Platform has been designated under those powers.

Danny Thomas remains in custody

Thomas, 37, has been charged following an incident in the English Channel on September 22.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said he faces one count of criminal damage and a further offence under Section 53 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 concerning an alleged failure to disclose a mobile phone PIN. Police said the criminal-damage allegation followed reported damage to a boat while an emergency responder was on board.

Thomas pleaded not guilty to both charges at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 25 and was remanded in custody.

The charges are not terrorism offences.

Claims remain unverified

Social media posts claiming Patriot Platform is about to be banned as a terrorist organisation have not been accompanied by an announcement from the Home Office, Prime Minister’s Office or another relevant government department.

Any decision to proscribe an organisation would be a significant legal step and would require the organisation to be formally added to the relevant statutory list.
