A man has died after falling from a motorway bridge linking the M26 and the M20 in Kent :The M20 in both directions and a large section of the M26 have been closed after police received reports for concerns for the welfare of a man in the area near to junction 2 of the M26.
The incident began just after 8am on Wednesday morning. Officers from Kent roads Policing and Highways put in large closures on all carriageways.
Fire-fighters with an aerial ladder and two appliances from Kent fire and rescue have also been called to the incident to assist officers from Kent Police.
Large green screens have also been brought in by Highways England these have been put around the base of the M26 overbridge that feeds onto the M20 near Wrotham Heath.
Long delays have built in the area as drivers try to bypass the closures with some becoming trapped down narrow countryside roads.
The London road between Wrotham and Addington is also very slow.
Road users heading towards Dover are advised to re-route using the A2 or M2. Traffic is reported to be approx 6-8 miles there are also long delays on the London Road with drivers trying to avoid the closures.
Others have been trying to take shortcuts through Ryarsh and Addington with some getting stuck down country lanes. The southbound carriage of the M20 is not expected to open before 2 pm whilst investigation work by Kent Police is carried out.
Kent Police and Kent Fire and Rescue have been approached for comment
UPDATE: 12.20pm : The #M20 westbound has now reopened between J3 (#M26) and J2 (#Tonbridge). The #M20 and #M26 eastbound carriageways remain closed at this time
