Police officers and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were called to a block of flats on Fir Tree Walk, Reigate around 5.10pm yesterday (Friday 4 November) following the discovery of a fire in a first floor flat.
The was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting in a serious condition, with reported severe burns and smoke inhalation.
Two other occupants in the flat (a man and a woman) managed to escape the property but a third person, a man in his 40s, had to be rescued. He was taken to St George’s hospital in a serious condition and he sadly died this morning as a result of the injuries sustained during the fire.
The second male occupant was taken to North East Surrey Hospital for treatment but he is likely to make a full recovery. The woman did not require any hospital treatment.
