HGV Blaze on Jubilee Way: Fire Put Out but Recovery Ongoing

The aftermath of a fierce HGV fire on Jubilee Way, Dover, is still under close watch by Kent Fire and Rescue Services. Though the flames are now extinguished, fuel remains in the lorry’s tank, keeping emergency crews on alert.

Fuel Removed Safely Amid Recovery Efforts

Using breathing apparatus and specialist equipment, firefighters teamed up with National Highways to carefully defuel the HGV. The operation was delicate, aiming to avoid further risk.

The lorry still blocks lane one of the northbound carriageway. Crews are painstakingly managing the recovery while coordinating with authorities to clear the scene safely and swiftly.

Smoke Cleared, Road Closure Continues

A full ventilation process has cleared the area of lingering smoke and hazardous fumes. Teams are watching every step of the lorry’s removal to prevent complications.

The road closure remains in place until all safety checks and recovery work are complete. Officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and investigations are ongoing.

Earlier Updates: Fire Extinguished, Minor Injury Reported

On August 4, emergency crews doused the fire, reopening one lane of Jubilee Way. Firefighters treated one person at the scene for a minor hand cut.

Kent Police managed traffic and helped secure the area, while the Highways Agency handled incident oversight.

Initial Response: Quick Action from Fire Services

Four fire engines raced to tackle the blaze on the A2 near Dover’s Duke of York’s roundabout. Crews used compressed air foam and breathing gear to swiftly put out the fire.

Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported. However, to keep everyone safe, the road remains closed as cleanup and recovery continue.

Drivers heading to Dover Docks are urged to take the A20 instead of the congested A2 and stay tuned for traffic updates to avoid delays.
