If elected Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak has pledged to double the number of foreign criminals deported from the UK

The former chancellor and Tory leadership contender said that he would reduce crime and increase prison capacity.
He reportedly wants to ensure that foreign nationals who commit crimes in the UK can be deported after serving six-month sentences rather than 12 months, as well as making those sentenced to jail three times eligible for removal even if no single custodial sentence exceeds the proposed six-month minimum.
“We are far too soft on foreigners who commit crimes in our country,” Mr Sunak was quoted as saying, “so I will double the number of foreign offenders we deport.”
I will reduce crime by locking up the most prolific offenders, keeping them locked up, and expanding prison capacity.
“The British people are one of the most generous and open-hearted people in the world,” he added. However, they expect everyone to follow the laws of the land. They want us to be harsh on those who do not comply.” That is why I am making foreign nationals who commit crimes such as stealing from our shop owners, stealing from our homes, or threatening victims with a knife deportable.” Express readers will expect us to take a zero-tolerance approach, so I will double the number of people deported in order to keep them safe and ensure that crime never pays.”
