Sunak Vows Crackdown on Foreign Criminals
Former Chancellor and Tory leadership hopeful Rishi Sunak has promised a tough stance on crime. He aims to slash crime rates by boosting prison capacity and speeding up deportations of foreign offenders.
Deportation After Six Months Jail
Sunak wants foreign criminals to face deportation after just six months behind bars, down from the current 12-month rule. Those jailed three times, even if each sentence is under six months, would also be eligible for removal.
“We are far too soft on foreigners who commit crimes in our country,” Sunak declared. “I will double the number of foreign offenders we deport.”
Crackdown to Protect British Communities
Sunak made his stance clear: “The British people are generous and open-hearted, but they expect everyone to follow the law. We must be tough on those who don’t.”
He singled out crimes like theft from shops and homes or knife threats as grounds for deportation.
“Express readers want zero tolerance. I will double deportations to keep our communities safe and send a clear message that crime does not pay.”
