A 10-year-old boy who plunged from the cliffs at Ovingdean, near Brighton, last September is now expected to make a full recovery, police have revealed.
Heroic Bystanders Save Life Before Emergency Crews Arrive
The fall happened around 5pm on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Members of the public sprang into action, delivering life-saving first aid before paramedics and the KSS Air Ambulance crew reached the scene along the undercliff walk between Ovingdean and Rottingdean.
With crucial help from the HM Coastguard, the boy was stabilised on the ground, transferred by land ambulance, then airlifted to a specialist unit at St George’s Hospital in London.
Suspect Arrested Then Released After Investigation
Initially, a 52-year-old man from Oxfordshire was arrested on suspicion of allowing a child to suffer serious harm. But Sussex Police later cleared the man, concluding the incident was a tragic accident caused by misadventure.
Police Praise Public for Swift Action
A Sussex Police spokesperson thanked everyone who helped at the scene and supported the investigation, saying their quick thinking was vital to the boy’s survival.
