Huge Gun Surrender in Wiltshire as Police Target Illegal Firearms
Massive Weapon Turn-In Campaign
The National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NABIS) launched a nationwide crackdown, urging anyone with firearms to hand them in – no questions asked. This included antique guns that were once legal before law changes in 2021. Cops also pushed for the surrender of decommissioned weapons that could be easily made deadly again.
What Was Handed In?
- 12 shotguns, including one sawed-off
- 10 handguns, featuring a Walther PPK – James Bond’s favourite
- 6 rifles, including an old WWII-era Mauser K98 (in poor condition)
- 7 air rifles and pistols
- 4 BB guns
- One crossbow
Cops Warn of Danger from Replica Guns
“Every weapon taken off our streets can save a life or prevent serious injury,” said Sgt Bill Monk of Specialist Operations. He stressed the threat posed by realistic-looking imitation guns, which criminals could use to scare people. “Folk might not tell a fake from a real handgun, making these replicas just as dangerous in the wrong hands.”

Sgt Monk added: “I’d like to thank everyone who turned in unwanted or unused weapons for safe disposal. You’re helping make Wiltshire and Swindon safer places.”
