Reckless Driver Caught After High-Speed Chase Through Sheffield Streets
Liam Wilkinson’s Wild Ride Ends in Custody
Liam Wilkinson, from Southey Hall Road, Sheffield, was slapped with a string of charges after a dramatic police chase on 15 May. The 31-year-old faced six counts including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving without insurance, carrying an offensive weapon, and possession of class C drugs.
Police Pursuit Through Multiple Sheffield Districts
Officers spotted Wilkinson behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Outlander in Firvale. They ordered him to stop after he dangerously cut across them on a roundabout. Instead, Wilkinson hit the accelerator and fled. The pursuit tore through Southey, Parson Cross, Shiregreen, and Firth Park.
- Wilkinson drove on the wrong side of the road
- Reached speeds up to 80mph on single carriageways
- Eventually stopped at Rolleston Road before fleeing on foot
Both Wilkinson and his passenger were caught moments later.
Knife, Drugs, and Stolen Car – Trouble Mounts
Officers discovered a knife and unidentified tablets believed to be controlled drugs inside Wilkinson’s car. Further checks revealed the Mitsubishi was stolen and uninsured. At Sheffield Crown Court on 27 November, Wilkinson pleaded guilty to all charges except vehicle theft.
Judge Sends Clear Message on Dangerous Driving
PC Simon Morfitt said: “Dangerous driving poses a risk to everyone involved. Those who take risks on the road often take further criminal risks. During the pursuit, Wilkinson endangered other road users — behaviour that will not be tolerated.”
Wilkinson was jailed for eight months and banned from driving for 18 months. He must retake his driving test before the ban is lifted.
