Bodrul Alam, 24, from Bloomsbury, found guilty of attempted murder after stabbing woman in unprovoked attack
Swift Action Saves Victim’s Life
Bodrul Alam was convicted at the Old Bailey on May 31 for the brutal attempted murder of a woman he knew. Detective Constable Olli Meek revealed Alam left his victim with multiple stab wounds in a shocking, unprovoked assault.
“It’s only thanks to the quick response of police officers, London Ambulance Service, Air Ambulance paramedics, and the hospital staff that she is alive today,” said DC Meek.
Fleeing Suspect Caught in France
Alam fled the scene immediately after the attack at a Camden address on April 29 last year. Officers quickly identified him and teamed up with international police to track him down. He was finally arrested near Versailles, France, on July 19 and extradited back to the UK on August 3, 2023.
Victim’s Children Helped Save Her
Detective Sergeant Julian Bates revealed the heart-wrenching detail that the attack happened in front of the victim’s children. “They courageously called for help and provided vital care to their mother until emergency services arrived,” said DS Bates.
The victim faces a tough road to recovery but showed remarkable bravery throughout. “Seeing her attacker behind bars will hopefully aid her healing,” added DS Bates, thanking her and her family for their dignity during the court process.
Police Vow to Protect Women From Violence
Detective Chief Inspector Steven Tod praised the case as an example of police determination to bring violent offenders to justice. “We will go to any lengths necessary to protect the public, especially women and girls, from violence,” he said.
Alam will be sentenced at the Old Bailey in the coming weeks.
