Albanian Gunman Busted on M1 with Deadly Converted Pistol

Under Surveillance, Arrest Made on Motorway

Klejdi Kazani, 21, an Albanian national, was nabbed last August while under heavy investigation by the Organised Crime Partnership (OCP) — a joint task force from the National Crime Agency and Metropolitan Police. Officers tracked him travelling along the M1 from Birmingham to London.

Weapon Hidden in Car, Ammo Modified to Kill

West Midlands Police swooped to stop the car and found a converted Turkish Retay 84FS pistol hidden under the front passenger seat. Originally a blank-firing gun, it was modified to fire live rounds with its barrel blockage removed. Kazani, sitting in the back, tried to flee but dropped a cigarette packet containing deadly 9mm blank cartridges rigged with steel ball bearings to act as projectiles.

Driver Also Arrested as Probe Widens

The driver was also arrested and remains under investigation by the OCP. Kazani faced serious charges at Luton Crown Court, pleading guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, as well as possession of a prohibited firearm. He was sentenced on 18 May.

Police Praise Teamwork, Vow Continued Action

“Kazani was caught with a deadly weapon and ammunition, which had the potential to inflict serious violence and fear on our streets,” said Andrew Tickner of the Organised Crime Partnership. “Thanks to West Midlands Police for their help. We will keep fighting organised criminals who supply these firearms to protect the public.”
