Swindon Man Jailed for Life Over Brutal Murder of Uncle
A Swindon man has been locked up for life, with a minimum of 12-and-a-half years behind bars, after being found guilty of murdering his uncle in a savage attack.
Terrifying Assault Ends in Tragedy
Grant Walker, 32, of Faringdon Road, Swindon, was sentenced today at Bristol Crown Court for the vicious killing of 53-year-old Terry Ricketts. The terrifying assault happened on 25 February inside Terry’s home in Westbourne Court, Swindon.
Walker grabbed his uncle, slammed his head repeatedly against a wall, and held him in a deadly headlock. The violent assault caused Terry to suffer cardiac arrest. Paramedics could not save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fugitive Caught and Brought to Justice
Walker fled the scene but was caught by police the next morning. He was arrested, charged with murder, and held in custody pending trial.
A five-day trial in August ended with the jury finding Walker guilty.
Police Praise and Family Condolences
“This has been an awful experience for Terry’s family, and while nothing can bring him back, I hope today’s sentencing can bring some form of closure for them,” said Detective Inspector Debbie Hatch, the senior investigating officer.
She also commended the police team involved: “I would like to thank all the officers who have worked tirelessly since that terrible night. Their dedication was key to securing this conviction.”
Terry Ricketts’ family has received support from specially trained officers throughout the ordeal. They hope today’s sentence delivers some justice for their loved one.
