Predator Richard Sears Must Face Sexual Harm Prevention Order

Richard Sears, previously known as Nicholas Glen Laloo, is facing a tough new Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) after a district judge slammed his “predatory behaviour” as a serious risk to the public.

At the hearing, the 51-year-old, who has a long record of sex offences, chillingly replied: “Now I’m going to have to change my name again.”

Long Criminal History of Sex Crimes and Violence

Sears was jailed in 1996 for 12 years after raping two women in just 24 hours. Since then, he has racked up more than 40 convictions including indecent assault, harassment, and fraud.

  • 2018: Caught twice by police with young girls in his car, given suspended sentence for breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO)
  • 2016: Hid his criminal past to work as a Yodel delivery driver
  • 2012: Hid past again to get a Tesco job
  • 1996: Jailed for double rape
  • 1994: Cleared of rape

Judge Slams Sears’ “Years of Predatory Behaviour”

District Judge Polly Gledhill was scathing during the hearing, warning Sears remains a “very serious risk,” especially to teenage girls. The court was told Sears has repeatedly breached orders and engaged in harassment and stalking.

“Your predatory behaviour is clear. You have been, and remain, a serious risk to the public,” said Judge Gledhill.

The judge rejected police calls for an indefinite SHPO but imposed a 10-year order preventing Sears from having contact with children.

Sears Claims Persecution, But Struggles to Escape His Past

Sears has claimed he just wants to move on, complaining of attacks such as paint stripper thrown on his car, a leaflet campaign against him, and vandalism to his home.

After the ruling, Sears insisted: “I’ve done my time. I’m just trying to get work and get on with my life.”

Yet with decades of convictions and the judge’s stern warning, it seems the community will be watching the convicted rapist closely for years to come.
