Brutal Gillingham Abuser Jailed for Over Two Years
Lewis Sutton has been locked up after violently assaulting his former partner in Gillingham. The 29-year-old subjected the woman to repeated abuse, including headbutts, beer throwing, and threats to control her social media.
Repeated Violence and Intimidation
- Sutton pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour, two counts of actual bodily harm, and three charges of criminal damage.
- On 6 October 2018, he repeatedly slapped and punched the victim, leaving her with serious facial injuries.
- He forced her to delete social media accounts, smashing one mobile phone when she refused, and damaging another phone later.
Beer Glass Attack and Chilling Threats
During a confrontation in a Gillingham pub on 30 March 2019, Sutton demanded to see the woman’s phone. After a heated argument, he hurled beer over her. When she tried to walk away, he threw a beer glass, pushed her to the ground, yanked her by the hair, and tried to strangle her.
A bystander stepped in, allowing the victim to flee. Despite this, Sutton continued shouting threats as she left.

Sutton not only subjected his victim to several frightening assaults but denied them, telling friends she made it up,” said PC John Carless of kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police. “I want to commend her bravery in ensuring he faced justice and can no longer harm anyone else. We’re committed to supporting victims and stopping domestic violence.”
Sutton was sentenced to two years and four months in prison on 3 June 2021.
