Caregiver Cash Con: Woman Jailed for Scamming Elderly Friend of Life Savings
Jacqueline Ashberry’s Shocking Betrayal
Jacqueline Ashberry, 61, from Kidderminster, has been locked up after ripping off an 88-year-old woman she cared for. The victim, whom Ashberry had known for 25 years, trusted her as an unofficial caregiver. Instead, Ashberry took control of her finances and swiped her entire life savings.
Family Uncovers the Fraud
The elderly woman’s sons grew suspicious and blew the whistle in April 2019. They discovered Ashberry had previously been convicted of theft and fraud against another vulnerable senior, earning a two-year suspended sentence earlier that same year. Their quick action ensured justice was served before any more damage was done.
Police Praise Tough Sentence
“Jacqueline Ashberry has a history of preying on vulnerable people, causing huge financial losses and distress to them and their families,” said Detective Constable James Green of West Mercia Police. “We’re pleased with the heavy jail term that will stop her from victimising more vulnerable members of the community.”
