Baby Delivered Mid-Air on Newquay Coastguard Helicopter Rescue!

A stunning baby boy made a dramatic entrance — 1,400ft above the ground — on a Newquay Coastguard helicopter last Saturday night. The chopper was on a Mercy mission, rushing a desperate mum from the remote Isle of Scilly to Treliske Hospital in Cornwall.

High-Flying Miracle: Baby Arrives 1,400ft Above Ground

The mum-to-be was en route to the nearest maternity ward at Treliske Hospital when it became clear she wasn’t going to make it in time. Alongside the crew was a midwife flown in for the emergency, but as labour accelerated rapidly, the helicopter’s winchman paramedic had to step up.

With nerves of steel, the winchman paramedic and midwife delivered the baby boy mid-flight — a first for the paramedic, who had only previously visited maternity wards during training.

“It all happened so quickly and the training just kicks in. It all went very smoothly,” a coastguard source said.

Both mother and baby landed safely and healthy at Treliske Hospital. There were no complications, and the proud parents now have a one-of-a-kind birth story to tell.
