Shocking Newborn Footage in Baby Death Trial

Jurors at the Old Bailey were shown the first footage of baby Victoria, the newborn whose lifeless body was found stuffed inside a Lidl ‘bag for life’. Her parents, Constance Marten, 36, and Mark Gordon, 49, have been charged over her tragic death after going on the run.

Couple on the Run as Police Launch Nationwide Hunt

The court heard the pair deliberately lived off the grid in freezing winter to dodge social services. A placenta was found burnt in a car on a Manchester motorway on January 5, 2023, kicking off a nationwide police manhunt.

Marten and Gordon spent large sums on taxis, moving from London’s Zone 1 through Essex and finally to East Sussex. In February, they were caught and Victoria’s frozen body was discovered in a rubbish-strewn shed, wrapped in a supermarket bag.

Chilling CCTV and Heartbreaking Video Evidence

Earlier CCTV showed Marten carrying something beneath her coat, wrapped in a blanket or towel. Today, jurors saw footage from January 7, 2023, of the couple carrying baby Victoria in a babygrow, cloaked in oversized jackets and hoodies.

The video reveals the grim journey: lifting Victoria from a taxi, placing her in a buggy outside a kebab shop, and visiting multiple locations. Gordon even bought a tent from Argos before heading to Newhaven, East Sussex.

Multiple Charges Filed as Trial Heats Up

Witnesses—including taxi drivers, bus passengers, and passersby—testified about seeing Marten hiding a baby under her coat while on the run.

Marten and Gordon now face several serious charges: manslaughter by gross negligence, child cruelty, concealing a birth, perverting the course of justice, and causing or allowing the death of a child. The dramatic case continues as the prosecution lays out its evidence.
