Two Years On: Dad Killed by Sleepy Driver – Shocking Dashcam Footage Goes Public
On 28th July 2017, at 9:05am, my dad tragically lost his life. Now, two years later, I’m making the dashcam footage of the deadly crash public to warn others.
Death on the Road – Driver Asleep at the Wheel
The fatal crash was caused by Chris Robert Trusler, a “Traffic Management Operative” from Northampton, who nodded off while driving. Trusler had just worked a gruelling night shift and started another day shift with hardly any rest. This reckless scheduling was the fault of his employer, Centurion Traffic Management of Leeds (CENTURION SITE SERVICES LIMITED).
The company should never have let Trusler work so many hours, especially behind the wheel of a vehicle. His dangerous fatigue ended my dad’s life.
Justice Served? Not Quite
Trusler was jailed for just two years for Death by Dangerous Driving and banned from driving for four years. But thanks to the leniency of our justice system, he was released after serving only 364 days.
Heartbreaking Dashcam Footage
The footage, which is graphic, shows the flatbed van on the right – driven by Trusler – falling asleep at the wheel. On the left, you see my dad in his van moments before the fatal crash.
