Ex-Met Police Officer Jailed for Over 30 Years for Shocking Sexual Abuses
David Carrick, a former Metropolitan Police officer, was slammed with a 30-year-and-239-day prison sentence today at Southwark Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to 48 appalling charges, including rape, false imprisonment, sexual assault, and coercive control.
Victims Tell Harrowing Stories of Abuse and Control
During the two-day hearing, statements from Carrick’s 12 victims revealed the shocking impact of his crimes. One woman described how Carrick, after heavy nights of drinking, would lock her in a cupboard and whip her while “whistling at her as if she were a dog”. He told victims they “belonged to him” and forced some to clean his house naked, using threats backed by his police baton and a photo of his service firearm, warning, “Remember, I am the boss.”
There were tales of extreme humiliation, including women being urinated on, monitored remotely via cameras, and locked naked under his stairs. One victim, whom Carrick met in a London bar in 2003, froze when he held a black handgun to her head before raping her repeatedly.
Justice Served After Relentless Investigation and Victim Bravery
“You brazenly raped and sexually assaulted women, some of whom you barely knew,”Justice Cheema-Grubb told Carrick, warning, “You have a long period of incarceration ahead. You are a real threat to women.”
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Iain Moor praised the victims’ courage and the team’s dedication: “Thanks to their bravery and my team’s relentless efforts, this serious and prolific sex offender is now behind bars for a very long time. We urge anyone else who may have been victimised to come forward—we will support you.”
The Lasting Impact on Survivors
- One woman went from a dress size 14 to size 6 in months, feeling suicidal and “physically and mentally exhausted” after Carrick’s control and abuse.
- Victims reported being isolated from friends and family, subjected to binge drinking, and struggling with self-destructive thoughts.
- Several survivors said the attacks have haunted their lives and relationships ever since.
This scandalous case exposes the dark side of a trusted police officer who used his position to prey on vulnerable women. Carrick’s lengthy jail term marks a decisive victory for justice and a warning to others abusing power behind the badge.
