Ex-Leicestershire Teacher Locked Up for Online Child Sex Crimes
A former Leicestershire teacher has been sentenced to over six years in prison after admitting to a string of shocking online sex offences against children.
Leics Police Crack Down on John Ewan Myles
Officers launched an investigation in April 2022 after receiving reports that John Ewan Myles had been sexually exploiting a teenage girl he met online. At the time, Myles worked at Ashby School.
He was arrested at his North West Leicestershire home. Police seized multiple devices, including a phone hidden under his bed. The investigation revealed Myles had contacted the girl using a fake name and lied about his age, claiming to be 18.
Disturbing Online Exploitation Uncovered
Myles and the girl communicated for months before he sent her sexual images of himself. Police found video calls documenting sexual activity between them. On one clip, the 15-year-old victim could be heard confirming her age while wearing her school uniform.
Pending sentencing, Myles admitted to further offences involving another teenage girl. Using the alias “Jamie Reid,” he deceived a second victim, telling her he was 17. Exploiting her vulnerability, he coerced sexual images and videos from her and exchanged illicit content.
Guilty Pleas and Long Sentence
Myles pleaded guilty to multiple offences against both victims, including:
- Engaging in sexual activity with children aged 13 to 15
- Causing children to watch sexual images
- Engaging in sexual communication with a child
- Making indecent photographs of a child
- Possession of extreme pornographic images involving animals

Police Urge Other Victims to Come Forward
“Myles knew exactly how old and vulnerable these girls were and exploited them purely for his own gratification,” said Detective Constable Helen Pape. “Faced with overwhelming evidence, he had no choice but to plead guilty.”
“If you believe you are a victim of Myles, also known as Jamie Reid, please contact us. We have trained officers ready to support and investigate all reports.”
