Man Charged with Brutal Axe Murder of Woman in Bexhill

Victim Found Dead After Violent Attack

A 58-year-old woman, Rita Lambourne, was found dead at her home in Bayencourt South, Bexhill, just after 10pm on Wednesday, 12 February. Sussex Police have confirmed she suffered fatal injuries in a violent axe attack. Authorities are treating it as a targeted assault.

Suspect in Custody Over Axe Killing

Donald Excell, 48, from Seabourne Road, Bexhill, has been charged with Rita Lambourne’s murder. Police believe he used an axe to carry out the attack, though the weapon has not yet been found. Excell is set to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 February.

Police Search for Axe and Rucksack

Officers are urging local residents to check bins, gardens, and outdoor areas for a missing axe and a navy blue The North Face rucksack, which are crucial to the investigation.

Others Arrested and Released

  • A 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder but later released with no further action.
  • A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and also released without charge.
