Shock After Police Punch and Kick Teen in Abbey Wood Robbery Arrest
Drama erupted in Abbey Wood, southeast London, on June 10 after cops were called over a child robbery. A group of males allegedly threatened the youngster with a bottle.
When officers arrived at a nearby address to make arrests, things quickly escalated.
Police Use Force on 16-Year-Old Sparks Anger
Carina White, a cultural commentator, shared shocking footage on Twitter showing police punching and kicking a 16-year-old she described as “a friend of a friend’s son.”
Hey Met Police, just wondering if detaining a 16-year-old child is a reasonable and appropriate use of force? Punching and kicking?” she wrote.
“He was just checking on a friend after seeing police in his garden. The cops weren’t even there to help him.”
Robbery Suspect Arrested and Released on Bail
The Met Police confirmed stolen property was found at the address. One 16-year-old tried to run but was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.
Met Police Review Incident Amid Public Outcry
A Met spokesperson said:
“This, along with officers’ body-worn video footage, will be assessed by the Directorate of Professional Standards. All Met officers are aware that any use of force must be justified and proportionate, and they will be held accountable.”
The chilling video sparked fury online. One Twitter user fumed:
“I’m fuming because he’s down and they’re still dropping blows.”
Another demanded:
“How are they going to assault a teenager like that?”
