Exeter Burglar Nabbed: Teen Swipes BMW and PS5 While Family Sleeps
Brazen Break-In Shocks Exeter Family
A 19-year-old thug has been locked up for 15 months after brazenly breaking into a family’s home in Exeter and stealing a BMW, a PlayStation 5, and personal items—while they slept.
Alfie Curtis, from Windermere Close, Exeter, pleaded guilty at Exeter Crown Court on Monday (14 July) to burglary following the January 2024 raid on Exwick Road.
The terrified homeowner woke to find her flat ransacked and her BMW gone. The burglar got in through unlocked patio doors, rifled through her bag, and made off with her car keys, bank cards, ID, and the prized PS5.
The stolen BMW was abandoned over a week later in Stoke Canon and examined by police.
DNA & CCTV Crack the Case
Curtis was caught after cops recovered his DNA from a bag handled during the break-in. CCTV captured the thief entering at 2:50am and driving off in the BMW by 3:32am.
Police swooped, arrested Curtis, and hauled him before the court.
Detective’s Warning for Residents
“This crime had a severe psychological effect on the victims, who were left terrified,”
said Detective Constable Margarita Amelcenko, lead investigator.
“Curtis not only stole their car and belongings, but also their sense of safety at home. We are determined to tackle this type of crime and bring offenders to justice.”
She urged everyone to keep homes secure and car keys away from doors and windows to foil opportunistic crooks.
