Knife-Wielding Thug Attacks Railway Staff at Bromley South Station

Violent Rage Over Fare Dodging

Damilola Fatuga, 19, erupted in violence after a revenue protection officer challenged him for dodging a ticket barrier. Fatuga struck out, landing multiple punches and knocking the officer’s front tooth clean out.

Staff Held at Knife Point

Two more staff rushed to help – but Fatuga lashed out again. One employee was punched in the eye, while another was stabbed repeatedly in the arm, thigh, and stomach. Miraculously, the stabbing victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

A fourth staffer bravely kicked the knife out of Fatuga’s hand, leading to his immediate arrest at the scene at around 12:45pm on Monday 21 May 2021.

Guilty Verdict at Croydon Crown Court

On Tuesday 15 November, Fatuga was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent for the stabbing. He had earlier pleaded guilty to assaulting the other two staff members and possession of the knife.

The violent teen, from Osborn Terrace, Blackheath, Greenwich, faces sentencing on Friday 10 February 2023.

Police Condemn Attack on Railway Workers

“This was a shocking and disturbing attack on members of staff who were attempting to do their job. It’s very fortunate that the stabbing victim did not suffer life threatening injuries, however it could’ve easily gone the other way,” said Superintendent Darren Malpas of British Transport Police.

“We know this attack had a significant impact on our colleagues in the rail industry. Like the rest of us, they have every right to work without fear of suffering violence. We’re committed to ensuring anyone who breaches this right are investigated and put before the courts.”
