Fourteen Kids Arrested After 14-Year-Old Dies in Gateshead Factory Fire
Shock in Gateshead as 14 children, aged 11 to 14, are held on suspicion of manslaughter following a horrific blaze that claimed the life of 14-year-old Layton Carr.
Tragedy Strikes at Fairfield Industrial Park
The fire broke out just after 8pm on Friday, May 2, at a building near Fairfield Industrial Park in Bill Quay. Fire crews quickly put out the flames. But inside, rescuers found the body of young Layton Carr.
Northumbria Police confirmed the arrest of 11 boys and 3 girls in connection with the incident. All are being questioned as the investigation unfolds.
Family Left Heartbroken
Layton’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers during this devastating time. Detective Chief Inspector Louise Jenkins said:
“This is an extremely tragic incident where a boy has sadly lost his life. Our thoughts are with Layton’s family as they begin to attempt to process the loss of their loved one. We ask that their privacy is respected during this incredibly difficult time.”
Investigation Ongoing, Police Seek Public Help
A police cordon remains at the scene while forensic experts carry out examinations. The 14 youths remain in custody as inquiries continue.
Northumbria Police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
