Man Left Fighting for Life After Bulldog-Type Dog Attack in South Lanarkshire
A man is in a serious condition in hospital after a brutal attack by a “large bulldog-type dog” in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire. Police were forced to shoot the dog dead when it turned aggressive towards officers at the scene.
Chaos Erupts as Dog Goes on Rampage
The terrifying incident unfolded around 5 pm, sparking an urgent response from firearms officers. The dog was reported dangerously out of control, causing panic in the neighbourhood.
Before the serious attack, another man was bitten by the same dog in a nearby street. That victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at Hairmyres Hospital.
Second Victim Suffered Serious Injuries
The second, seriously injured man was attacked in the Tinto View area. Paramedics rushed him to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for urgent treatment.
Police Shoot Dog After Attack on Officer
Officers had no choice but to use lethal force when the aggressive bulldog-type dog lunged at them. Police will now work to identify the exact breed of the animal.
Due to the use of firearms, the case will be reviewed by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) to ensure proper procedure was followed.
Superintendent Steven Espie told the community: “This was a distressing incident for those involved. I want to reassure the local residents that this was a contained event and there is no further risk to the public. Police will maintain a presence while inquiries continue, including determining the dog’s breed.”
