Tragic Road Rage Death Shakes Manchester Community
The death of 30-year-old Sadiq Al-lami, fondly known as ‘Pitbull’ by friends, has sent shockwaves through Manchester. Sadiq was fatally attacked during a ‘road rage’ row at traffic lights in Didsbury in the early hours yesterday.
One Arrested as Police Probe Murder
Police say the incident happened around 1:40am. An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Sadiq, who came to the UK from Iraq as a child, was just days away from his 31st birthday. Friends say the deadly dispute started over a “petty row” with another driver.
Beloved Local Figure Remembered
Known for his striking resemblance to rapper Pitbull, Sadiq worked at the TikTok-famous Miami Crispy chicken shop and in private security. Friends described him as the “life and soul of the party” with contagious laughter and a carefree spirit that touched all who met him.
“If someone asked me who lived their life happy and free, Sadiq would be at the top of the list,” said close friend Kay Henny. “His energy and laughter can never be replaced.”
Another lifelong friend, Fawad Ahmed, called the killing “shocking” and said Sadiq’s life “should never have ended over something so trivial.” Denika Brooks recalled how Sadiq always brightened up Lola’s in Deansgate, where staff reserved a table just for him.
Family Calls for Justice
Sadiq’s family in Iraq have pleaded for justice and the harshest punishment for those responsible. His cousin Mustafa Al Failey from Baghdad said, “My cousin Sadiq was a lovely man; he was loved by everyone.”
Mourners are planning a weekend gathering to celebrate what would have been Sadiq’s 31st birthday, honouring his vibrant and caring nature.
Police Urge Witnesses to Speak Out
Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson, leading the case, said the attack was an isolated incident and urged anyone with information to contact police. Support is being provided to Sadiq’s grieving family, who have requested privacy.
Witnesses can call 101 quoting log 166 of 23/01/2024 or provide anonymous tips via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The community mourns the loss of a man remembered for his warmth, humour, and indomitable spirit — taken far too soon in a senseless confrontation.
