Second Arrest Made Over Banksy Art Heist in Peckham
London’s Metropolitan Police have nabbed a second suspect in connection with the brazen theft of a Banksy artwork from Commercial Way, Peckham. The piece, a striking red stop sign featuring three military drones, was unveiled just last Friday before being ripped off within the hour.
Two Men in Custody After Bolt Cutter Theft
The first arrest came on Saturday—a man in his 20s charged with theft and criminal damage and later released on bail. The new suspect, a man in his 40s, remains in custody as the investigation ramps up.
Police launched their probe after Southwark Council reported the disappearance. Eye-witnesses caught the daring daylight theft on camera—showing the culprits using bolt cutters, with one standing on a Lime bike saddle for leverage. The thieves made a quick getaway with Banksy’s politically charged artwork.
Social Media Footage Fuels Hunt for Missing Banksy
The Met are pleading for public help as video clips circulate online showing the heist in detail. Investigators want any info on the stolen sign’s whereabouts or the identity of others involved.
Southwark Council wasted no time, replacing the iconic sign with a standard traffic post to keep the streets safe.
Banksy’s Art Sparks Ceasefire Message Amid Gaza Tensions
The artwork, interpreted by many as a call for peace in Gaza, echoes Banksy’s previous drone-themed pieces—like those displayed at his Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem, famously dubbed “the worst view of any hotel in the world” due to its location by Israel’s West Bank wall.
The investigation is ongoing, and we urge anyone with information to come forward,” said a Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
Stay tuned as the hunt continues for the missing Banksy masterpiece.
