Police on the Isle of Wight have arrested two men after a red Mercedes Sprinter van raised alarm bells. The van is believed to have crossed on the Wightlink Portsmouth to Fishbourne ferry to carry out a string of thefts across the island.

Locals Spot Men Acting Shady, Police Move In

Worried residents tipped off Hampshire Constabulary after spotting the men prowling around suspiciously. Officers tracked them down and conducted a stop-and-search at Premier Shop on St Vincent Road in Ryde.

The pair were detained and are now helping police with their inquiries.
