First Image Released of Man Killed in Hackney Boxing Day Stabbing
The chilling first image of Michael John Murphy, 49, who was fatally stabbed in a street brawl on Boxing Day, has been made public. The tragic attack unfolded around 3:10am on Cranwood Street, Hackney, close to Old Street Tube station.
Four Arrested Then Freed as Police Probe Brutal Altercation
Police initially detained four men aged 42, 44, 35, and 49 on suspicion of murder. But all have since been released without charge as the investigation continues.
Witness Appeal as Police Piece Together Fatal Fight
Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen of the Met’s specialist crime team urges anyone who saw or heard the fight involving up to 10 people to come forward. She said:
“We are continuing to piece together the events that led to Michael sustaining his injuries and would appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything in the Cranwood Street area on Boxing Day morning to come forward.”

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, overseeing policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, offered heartfelt sympathies to Michael’s family:
