Body Found on M3 Sparks Massive Tailbacks
Police shut down part of the M3 this morning after a man’s body was discovered on the eastbound carriageway near Junction 3, Lightwater, Surrey.
Long Delays for Morning Commuters
The grim discovery came around 4:50am, forcing closures in both directions until 10:45am. Drivers faced up to 10 miles of queues and delays lasting nearly two hours.
Police Say Death Not Suspicious
A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 4:50am to Junction 3 following the discovery of a man’s body. It’s believed the body had been there for hours but wasn’t found earlier due to overnight closures. The death is not thought to be suspicious.”
The man has yet to be formally identified, though his family has been informed.
Traffic Chaos as Diversions Create Gridlock
Highways England set up diversions for northbound traffic, guiding drivers over the Junction 3 roundabout via slip roads. Vehicles trying to join the M3 northbound from Lightwater are directed to use Junction 4 instead.
Highways England warned: “Drivers heading to Junction 3 from Lightwater intending to go eastbound should instead travel westbound and turn at J4 due to a partial closure on J3 roundabout.”
“Road users are advised to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes. Current delays stand at around two hours.”
