Cannabis Farm Busted After Police Spot Fugitive in Rainworth
Police visiting Tudor Crescent in Rainworth for an unrelated matter made a shocking discovery when they noticed someone fleeing a nearby house. Sensing something was off, officers from the Newark and Sherwood response team decided to dig deeper.
Door Left Wide Open Leads to Huge Find
At around 11:45am on Monday, April 24, the Rota 3 Response team knocked on the door with no reply. They then checked the back and found the door left wide open. As they stepped inside, a strong smell of cannabis hit them instantly.
120 Cannabis Plants Seized Along with Dangerous Electrical Setup
- Police found over 120 cannabis plants spread across three rooms.
- The electricity supply had been illegally bypassed to power the grow operation.
- All drugs and electrical gear were confiscated and destroyed by the Sherwood neighbourhood policing team.
District Commander Praises Officers’ Sharp Instincts
“Our officers deserve great credit for the awareness they showed in following up a lead and making this discovery,” said Inspector Charlotte Ellam, District Commander for Newark and Sherwood.
“This was a great example of intuitive policing and ultimately led to a cannabis grow that was operating within our community being shut down.
“We don’t want to see any type of drug activity in the areas we police – especially cannabis production. These operations bring nothing but trouble to neighbourhoods and pose a serious fire risk due to dangerous electrical modifications.”
