Blaze Destroys East London Police Station Roof
Over 170 firefighters tackled a massive fire at a police station in Forest Gate, East London. The blaze gutted the building’s roof, London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed. Fire crews deployed 30 engines and 175 firefighters in a major emergency response.
Swift Evacuation Saves Lives
The fire broke out on the third floor at 4.17pm on Wednesday. Around 60 people were evacuated quickly and safely. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. Firefighters contained the flames, preventing them from spreading to nearby properties.
Police Operations Hit by Closure
Commander Kyle Gordon of Newham Police assured the public that local policing continues despite the fire. However, sergeant and policing commentator Graham Wettone warned the fire’s impact on the patrol base will disrupt the Met’s business continuity plans. Temporary closure of the station is set to affect local policing operations significantly.
