A courageous Good Samaritan and a heroic mother have drowned trying to save a teenage girl swept out to sea at Withernsea, Yorkshire. The heartbreaking tragedy has left the community devastated.
Mother and Daughter Caught in Killer Waves
Fifteen-year-old Grace Keeling was wave-watching with her mum, Sarah Keeling, 45, on Friday when the sea turned deadly. Grace got into trouble in the treacherous 12ft waves. Hearing her daughter’s desperate cries, Sarah plunged into the icy water to save her.
Good Samaritan Dies Saving Strangers
Mark Ratcliffe, 67, a passerby, saw the ordeal unfold and dived in to help. The brave pensioner was pulled unconscious from the water but sadly died shortly after rescue. Sarah was also recovered dead that evening.
Grace is still missing as rescue teams battle freezing conditions and blizzard-like weather in a desperate search.
