Van Driver Caught Clipping Beard While Driving on Motorway
A van driver has been filmed in a jaw-dropping display of reckless behaviour – trimming his beard with tin snips while hurtling down the motorway. Yes, you read that right. He took both hands off the wheel to prune his facial hair with a pair of metal-cutting clippers typically used for sheet metal.
Dangerous Driving Rampage on Major Roads
Police spotted this wild stunt during a crackdown on careless drivers along the M1, M18, and A1 between July 14 and 19. In a five-day blitz, officers nabbed 240 motorists risking lives with all kinds of illegal antics.
Other shocking footage showed drivers glued to their phones with one hand on the wheel, including both cars and vans. One bizarre moment even caught a bird clinging onto the back of a trailer after escaping its cage.
South Yorkshire Police used an unmarked HGV cab provided by National Highways to secretly monitor these law-breaking road users.
Alarming Stats From The Operation
- 45 caught using mobiles behind the wheel
- 74 caught without seatbelts
- 10 not in proper control of their vehicles
- 12 driving without due care and attention
- 31 pulled up for stopping on the dangerous hard shoulder
- 2 caught speeding
- 3 caught ignoring red X signs
The haul included 176 HGVs, 41 LGVs, and 57 cars.
Police Cracking Down on The “Fatal Four”
Inspector Matt Collings from South Yorkshire Roads Policing blasted reckless road users, stressing the deadly “Fatal Four” offences behind most crashes:
- Using a mobile phone while driving
- Drink or drug driving
- Speeding
- Not wearing a seatbelt
“If you kill or seriously hurt someone, you’re likely looking at a hefty prison sentence. Is it worth the risk?” Inspector Collings warned.
Police Urge Drivers To Shape Up
With eight road deaths in South Yorkshire in just under three months since the last crackdown, police say this fight to cut casualties is far from over. Inspector Collings urged drivers to take responsibility behind the wheel.
“We can’t be everywhere at once. Road users must think twice and drive safely,” he added.
South Yorkshire Police continue their push to make the roads safer and call on all drivers to follow the rules and protect lives.
