Two Years On: Father Fatally Shot in Roydon Tragedy
Robert Christopher Powell, 50, was gunned down outside his home on Water Lane, Roydon, in the early hours of June 13, 2020. Despite desperate efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the next day in hospital.
A devoted family man, Robert was a loving dad of three and a proud grandad to two. His loss has left a huge hole in the lives of relatives and friends who cherish his memory.
Family Desperate for Answers After Murder
Despite a massive investigation involving 119 witness statements, 661 seized exhibits, and over 194 hours of CCTV footage, the killers remain at large. On the second anniversary of Robert’s death, his mother has issued a heartfelt plea for help.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have information that can help us find my son’s murderers. I don’t believe no one knows anything. Everyone knows something or has heard a rumour. Please come forward and speak to Essex Police.
“Robert was more than 50 years old — he was still my son. He had a smile that still makes me happy. We spoke often, planning a future stolen by those who took him from us.”
“The pain will never leave. On birthdays, you wait for a phone call, a familiar laugh, or a favourite song. I beg anyone with even a tiny scrap of info to contact Essex Police and help us find closure.
Police Vow to Catch Killers
Detective Superintendent Stephen Jennings of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate leads the probe. He said:
“We will not stop until Robert’s killers are caught and brought to justice, even though it won’t bring him back. No family should endure this agony while murderers walk free.”
Officers continue to investigate thoroughly and urge anyone with information — no matter how small — to come forward. “It’s never too late to do the right thing,” said Det Supt Jennings.

- Nana Oppong (41), aka ‘Enz’ – 5ft 6in, proportionate build, ties to East London and Stratford, may now be overseas.
- Israr Shah (36), aka ‘Slick’ – 6ft 1in, slim build, linked to Romford and East London.
- Temitope Adeyinka (37), aka ‘Limo’ – 5ft 8in, medium build, associated with Stratford and Bow, East London.
