Met Police Summer Camp Set to Boost SW London Kids’ Summer Fun
Youngsters in south west London are gearing up for a summer full of fun and adventure, thanks to a popular camp run by Met Police officers.
Action-Packed Four-Week Programme
The Summer Camp offers a four-week schedule for kids aged 9 to 16 from Wandsworth, Merton, Kingston, Richmond, and Twickenham. It’s organised by Parallel Youth Enterprise (PYE), a charity that raises funds and prepares the camp year-round. The sessions are managed by youth engagement and schools officers from South West Command Unit.
Covid Safety Means Smaller Bubbles
This year’s camp is scaled down due to the pandemic, with just 70 places divided into seven bubbles of ten children each, led by dedicated staff. Safety checks, PPE, and hand sanitising will be strictly enforced to keep everyone safe.
From Music to Outdoor Thrills
Based at St Cecilia’s School, campers will enjoy music, dance, arts, crafts, and circus skills. They’ll also visit adventure centres and Aqua Sports, and take part in rock climbing, sailing, canoeing, and mini golf.
PC Louise Dann, camp manager, said: “The last few months have been tough for everyone. We weren’t sure if we could run Wandsworth Summer Camp this year, but we were determined to go ahead safely. The high number of applications shows just how much young people need this.
“We wish we could have welcomed everyone, but those who missed out will hopefully have another chance next year.”
Building Bridges Between Police and Youth
The camp not only keeps kids active but also helps build strong, lasting bonds between young people and officers. It gives those who might not otherwise get the chance to try new activities and stay supported over summer.
Rachel Bright, trustee at PYE, said: “These camps are a lifeline for parents and children. We’re thrilled to provide another exciting programme, with all the added precautions this year.
“Wandsworth camp is now in its third year and growing fast, though it still has a way to go to catch up with Lambeth camps, which have been going strong for over 30 years. These partnerships show how communities can make a real difference.”
