Four Met Police Officers Sacked in 24 Hours Over Failed Drug Tests
In a stunning crackdown, four Metropolitan Police officers were fired within a single day after testing positive for drugs. The rapid dismissals expose serious challenges within the force to keep standards and integrity intact.
Officers Failed Cocaine and Cannabis Tests
- PC Nicola Mathews from Lambeth tested positive for cocaine in a ‘with cause’ drugs test last November, shattering her clean record.
- PC David Burgess failed a random test the same month, testing positive for cannabis. He blamed an accidental vape pen use containing THC after a football match with friends.
- PC Daniel Brand blew positive for cocaine following another ‘with cause’ test in August 2023, further dragging the Met’s reputation through the mud.
- PC Michael Jules, part of the Serious Investigation Unit, also tested positive for cannabis in a November 2023 test.
Met Police Hit With Zero Tolerance
All four officers were found guilty of gross misconduct relating to discreditable behaviour. PC Burgess, PC Brand, and PC Jules were dismissed immediately without notice, demonstrating the Met’s tough stance. PC Mathews had already resigned, but would have also faced instant dismissal.
“Had she remained a serving officer, PC Mathews would have been dismissed without notice,” a Met spokesperson confirmed.
Message Sent Loud and Clear
The Metropolitan Police’s swift action sends a powerful message: drug use and misconduct among officers will not be tolerated. It underscores the force’s commitment to accountability and preserving public trust in the wake of these scandals.
